How Do I...?

Law Enforcement Torch Run

The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is a fund raising event held yearly in order to raise money for the Special Olympics.

In 2008, approximately 40-50 people participated in the torch run, which included special athletes, police officers and civilians interested in aiding the cause. These folks ran from Leech Printing on Braecrest Avenue towards 18th street, and then down to the Wal-Mart, where a BBQ was hosted in support of the event. A senior member of the Brandon Police Service as well as one from the Winnipeg Police Service then made their way up to the rooftop of the Wal-Mart where they camped out in order to fundraise for the event. A total of $7769.57 was raised and all the proceeds were then donated to the Special Olympics.

If you have any questions regarding the LETR, or would like to participate in future torch runs, contact Community Services at 729-2378

BPS Charity Hockey

The Brandon Police Association Charity Hockey team has participated in charity games in support of Special Olympics for the last several years. Players from BPS, as well as Manitoba Corrections, Brandon Fire Department and Winnipeg Police Service, have given their time to play in these fun and worthwhile events.

The team has travelled to Flin Flon, Thompson, Winkler, Steinbach and Winnipeg and has been joined on the ice by numerous hockey stars including Dale Hawerchuk, Bryan Trottier and Marcel Dionne. These games have been organized by Xentel Corporation through their Battle of the Badges program.

The team has also competed in the Western Canadian Police Hockey Championships and recently, in the Winnipeg Police Service Patrollman tournament.

BPS Razorbacks

The Brandon Police Service also has the Razorbacks volleyball team, which goes to local schools to compete against students, teachers and other members of the community. The team promotes a healthy, active lifestyle. It also promotes healthy relationship between police and the community and gives a friendly sense of competition at these games.
