Bomb Robot Brandon Police Service’s “Bomb Robot” BPS began discussing the concept of having a “Bomb Robot” built locally approximately 2.5 years ago with representatives from Crocus Plains High School. This included students & staff. Once it was determined a project of this magnitude was feasible, local service clubs were approached along with other businesses that had capabilities to supply materials. A presentation was made to the Brandon Rotary Club and the club provided $1500.00 towards the project. An additional $1500.00 was provided by the Brandon Police Service in order to make the project possible. Shortly thereafter the project commenced, and approximately five different areas within Crocus Plains involving students were utilized in building the robot. Not long after, the robot was completed, utilizing a remote control and camera to drive it. The robot will be used in the future for high risk incidents to assist the police service. The use of the robot keeps officers out of harms way when dealing with potentially volatile situations. In designing & building the robot the students and Police Officers were able to work closely together. We had the advantage of bringing all those involved close together over the time taken to complete the project. As far as the Brandon Police Service is aware this is the first project of this type in Canada. |
